Animal Movement Licences

Following the Foot and Mouth outbreak, it became clear that there was a need
for improved tracking of animal's movements. To this end, a rigourous regime of
licencing which controls a range of farm animals has been introduced.
The most common animals that have to be licenced are sheep, pigs, cattle and goats.
The conditions which apply to these movements vary according to the type of
animal, the destination and the type of trip. In addition, these conditions are
being altered constantly so it is important to be aware of up-to-date information
when applying for a movement licence. Details can be found on the Defra
website by clicking here.
Sheep, goats and pigs
For movements of sheep, goats or pigs it is necessary for the keeper to complete
an Animal Movement Licence (AML) prior to the commencement of the
movement. This licence must accompany the animals throughout the movement.
There are two licences: an AML1 for sheep and goats, and an AML2 for pigs. An
AML is made up for four parts: White (top copy) which is sent by the recipient of
the animals to their local authority, Pink which is retained by the destination farm,
Blue is retained by the haulier and Yellow by the holding of departure.
AML forms can be obtained from the Animal Health Section at the Council of the
Isles of Scilly - please call 01720 424038, or email kday@scilly.gov.uk. Completed white
copies relating to received animals should be sent within three days to:
The Animal Health Section, Town Hall, St Mary's, Isles of Scilly, TR21 0LW
Cattle
Cattle are permitted to move under a general licence. This licence is not
required to accompany them during the movement. However, the Defra website
will always have up-to-date information regarding current conditions relating to
cattle movements so it is always worth checking - click here. Further information may also
be found at the British Cattle Movement Sevice (BCMS) website, by clicking
