Living and working in the Isles of Scilly is a special privilege 
and has many advantages over living on the mainland of United Kingdom.
The Islands are set in a beautiful marine landscape and enjoy a year-round temperate climate that avoids the extremes of cold and warmth as often experienced on the mainland UK.
There are five inhabited islands in the group and each has its own vibrant, working community. Tourism is the main occupation now, but the traditional pursuits of fishing and farming still have an important role.
The fishing is mainly shellfishing for crab and lobster and the farming now concentrates on the production of early spring flowers, particualrly the many-headed, heavily scented narciccus - Soleil d'Or - that flowers weeks before any other spring flower can be picked on the mainland.
