The purpose of this document is to promote equal treatment for all employees or job applicants irrespective of race, colour, sexual orientation, nationality, ethnic origin, religion, political belief, disability, age, gender or marital status. This document is managed in such a way that the Council of the Isles of Scilly complies with Equal Opportunities Legislation and codes of practice.
The scope of this document applies to all members, established and temporary employees; all job applicants and all services and contractors. This document also covers our response to all residents and visitors to the Isles of Scilly.
When selecting and appointing contractors, the Council will ensure that they have an Equal Opportunities Policy. The responsibility of the Council to promote race equality (a positive duty under the Race Relations Amendment Act) also devolves to its contractors. Their equal opportunities policy should show that they:
- Promote and demonstrate fairness and equality of opportunity in the provision of services;
- Promote and demonstrate fairness and equality of opportunity in the employment of staff.
