Civil Partnerships in the Isles of Scilly

Come to Scilly and hold your Civil Partnership Ceremony at one of our fantastic locations

Civil Partnership formations came into effect on 5th December 2005. This means that same sex couples can enter into a legal partnership, which gives them the same rights as married couples.

Have you thought about forming your Civil Partnership in a stunning Island location, and an ideal place for a celebratory break with idyllic white beaches and good food and accommodation?

It is straightforward to arrange your Civil Partnership in Scilly as long as you live in England or Wales.

Our locations are:

  • The Register Office, Porthcressa, St.Mary's (limited capacity)
  • Juliet's Garden Restaurant, Porthloo, St. Mary's
  • The Old Wesleyan Chapel, Garrison Lane, St.Mary's
  • St.Martin's on the Isle Hotel, St.Martin's
  • Island Hotel, Tresco

The Register Office caters for small parties (maximum of 8 people). All other venues cater for any number up to 60 or 70, but are equally suitable for small functions.

The fee for a basic "without frills" formation in the Register Office is £40.00 with the option of a small ceremony. Similarly to weddings, the area used is part of the Superintendent Registrar's office, accessed via a public shelter. However, it is situated on top of the bank overlooking Porthcressa Bay. It is as close to a beach ceremony as the law currently allows, and has wonderful views from just outside. The fee for a certificate issued at the time is £3.50.

The Old Wesleyan Chapel itself is an old listed building, tastefully decorated, and with a lovely character and atmosphere. It is a superb venue, and is also used as the Council Chamber and Magistrate's Court for the Isles of Scilly. A ceremony is offered as part of the package within the Registrar's fee paid. The fee is between £355 and £480 depending on the day of the week. There are no additional costs, apart from the certificate fee, which is the same for all venues.

The Registrar's fee for Juliet's Garden will be the same as the Old Wesleyan Chapel, but further information about availability and charges would need to be obtained directly from the restaurant. The phone number is 01720 422228, & the website Juliet's Garden Restaurant Opens in a new window

For St Martin's on the Isle or the Island Hotel, the Registrar's fee is between £455 and £580 depending on the day of the week. Again, this includes a ceremony.

More pictures may be found on the Marriages page. The legal preliminaries to be completed are similar to marriages. Please read Civil Partnership Guide Opens in a new window
