Licensing of Premises for Civil Ceremonies

Licensing of Premises for Civil Ceremonies

Information about Licenses:

  • The Isles of Scilly Council licenses venues for the conduct of civil ceremonies.
  • A license runs for 3 years and the ceremonies are conducted by the Isles of Scilly Registration Department.

Fees and Charges:

The fees and charges for a 3 year license are set annually by the Local Authority.

Currently the cost of a 3 year license is £1675 and this fee must be submitted along with the application form. Once paid, this fee is non refundable if your application is not approved.

Conditions:

Venues have to fulfil a number of requirements before they can be approved for civil ceremonies.

These are as follows:

  • Venues must be permanent, roofed structures and have no recent or ongoing religious connection.
  • Ceremonies cannot take place in the open air, in a garden or a marquee.
  • It is unlikely that private homes would be suitable.
  • The venue must also have undertaken a thorough risk assessment and dealt with any findings.
