Seasonal Workers

For those visiting Scilly to work

Scilly welcomes workers from each corner of the globe! There was a time when a massive proportion of our seasonal workers were from the British Isles, but in the last 10 years there has been a massive shift in this demographic and Scilly now has around 200 non-UK seasonal workers living and working on the islands for varying lengths of time. The Community Safety Partnership has worked hard with our Cornwall counterparts to design and produce a booklet that we think will help people better assimilate into island life. Some people may think it to not be a worthwhile exercise, but I ask these people to imagine themselves going to live and work in a foreign land, and think of the hundreds of little bits of information that you take for granted here. Things like where the Health Centre is, what happens in an emergency, how prescriptions work, getting advice on social issues, where to get stamps, how to vote, how to....the list is huge!

We hope that this booklet goes some way to covering almost every question that our foreign friends may have about living here on Scilly, and in Cornwall.
