How to register to vote

In the light of a number of recent major reviews by the Government of electoral registration regulations and practices, the rolling registration of electors has now been introduced. This means that if you change address you can transfer your vote to your new address stright away.

Amendments can also be made if you change your name, become eligible to vote for the first time or if our existing records are wrong. Only one person can apply per form and you must sign your own form, someone else cannot do it for you. It should be noted that being on the Council Tax list does not mean that you are on the Voters List.

Keeping the voters list accurate

You should re-register if you move. You can do this using the Electoral registration form. It is important for you to do so to help us keep your details up to date.

In order to keep the voters list as accurate as possible, a registration form will be delivered to your property each year, in the autumn.

Only one person needs to complete and sign this form but they must include the names of all those who are eighteen or over. Those who are sixteen or seventeen must also be included with their date of birth entered in the appropriate box. It will assist us if the form is returned immediately and will keep our costs as low as possible.

Legal requirement

By law the registration form is required to be completed and returned from all households and failure to do so could result in a fine of up to £1000.
