Budget requirements

The Council's Total budget requirement for 2007/08 is £3,206,270.

In 2006-07 the Government introduced a new system for calculating the amount of funding provided to support Council spending.
From 1st April 2006 it provided a "Dedicated Schools Grant"(DSG) specifically to support expenditure by the Five Island School and associated Children's and Young Peoples Services, and a "four block" system to support "All Other Services."

The amounts confirmed for 2007/08 is as follows:-

Isles of Scilly Education Grant (DSG) - £2,490,790
All Other Services Grant - £1,853,750

For 2007/08 Full Council have resolved to increase 'D' Band Council Tax by 4.9% which will generate an amount of £1,049,920 an increase of £66,980 on 2006/07.

Reserves

General fund reserves at 1 April 2006 stood at £1,248,185 and are estimated to be £1,029,985 at 31 March 2007 and £831,385 at 31 March 2008.

The following table identifies the number of staff, including all school employees, employed by the Authority on 1st.April 2006 (staff who do more than one job are counted twice if separately contracted, retained staff have not been included.)

The part-time staff listed above can work anything from I hour per week up to 30 hours per week.

Precepts

The Police Service on the Island is no longer funded by the Council but your Council Tax Demand will show a separate sum calculated by the Devon and Cornwall Police Authority or the Police Website Devon & Cornwall Police Authority.
