COMMON ASSESSMENT FRAMEWORK

Welcome to the Common Assessment Framework (CAF), which is designed to help children, young people and families get the most appropriate levels of support from professionals. The aim of CAF is to identify needs and give help early to try to stop issues becoming something bigger.

CAF is about "Multi-agency" working. This means that a range of professionals who may be able to support the child/young persons needs meet together, discuss and prepare action plans and where possible support is able to be provided.

The CAF process involves a form being completed that enables children, young people and/or their families to share with professional's information that paints a picture about the individual strengths/weaknesses that they may feel are inhibiting them from achieving the 5 main Every Child Matters Outcomes. The form is completed in partnership with a professional, who will be responsible for getting the form to the CAF Administrator.

The Isles of Scilly have worked in partnership with a number of different agencies, to ensure that the process for the children, young people and their families living across the islands is the most suitable one for our unique context.

Therefore careful planning and consideration has gone into how the CAF process is managed. Extensive training has taken place so that professionals feel confident about initiating or working as part of a team in a CAF situation.
