Children learn through play and regular borrowing of different toys encourages exploration and development of new skills. The Council of the Isles of Scilly toy and resource library has been a valuable community resource since 2001 and offers children and families the opportunity to borrow a range of toys and resources.
The toy library is located at Carn Thomas Children's Centre and is generally open Monday to Friday between 0900 and 1630. There is an advance booking system for nursery equipment.
Below is a summary of some of the types of toys and resources available to hire:
- Nursery equipment such as strollers; high chairs; travel cots and baby baths
- Toys for babies, toddlers and young children such as; building bricks; let's pretend; dress up; ride on's; pop up's and lots more
- Board games, CD Rom's and story sacks
- Musical instruments.
- Educational resources (up to secondary aged children) including multicultural; geography; literacy etc.
There is a small annual membership fee which ensures the continuity of the toy and resource library service. Members are eligible for reduced hire rates.
The Children's Centre also hosts shared play opportunities such as parent and toddler sessions which provide a friendly meeting place for parents and carers. These generally take place Tuesday and Thursday mornings 0930 - 1200hrs and Friday afternoons 1330 - 1500hrs.
