Extended Services
In line with the Council of the Isles of Scilly's aim to provide excellent services to children, young people and families, significant developments are planned across the Extended Schools agenda.
Extended Schools support a range of services including childcare, after school activities, health support and adult education. Services improve children's motivation, behaviour and life chances and help to provide more integrated and accessible provision. By offering services the school can focus on raising standards and achievement.
To focus on specific objectives the Government have set out a core offer of services that they expect all schools to offer in partnership with local authorities and providers by 2010. The core offer includes access to:
- A varied menu of after school activities, such as homework and sports clubs
- High-quality childcare provided on the school site or through local providers
- Parenting support, including information and family learning sessions
- Swift and easy referral to a wide range of specialist support services
- Wider access to school and community facilities
We have already started to address this agenda locally, but in order to achieve these outcomes we need to continue working closely with parents, children and other partners. It is hoped that all community groups will wish to contribute ideas and enthusiasm to the concept of Extended Schools, by offering support, guidance and opportunities to engage in a wide range of activities. Ongoing consultation is envisaged as the project matures to ensure that we continue to take into account the aspirations of all island communities within a changing environment.
