Services for young people
The Youth Hub
The Youth Service is committed to providing a varied menu of high quality activities and events based on consultation and input from young people themselves.
The Youth Hub is based at the Children's Centre at Carn Thomas. The Hub regularly runs drop in sessions for young people aged 11 - 18. The Hub does not have a rigid opening structure which enables activities to be flexible around after school activities and voluntary organisations for young people on Scilly. The Youth Service employs a range of Youth Workers who work alongside the Youth Hub Co-ordinator. Hub activities throughout 2008 have included;
- Fishing trips
- LazerTag Combat
- Swimming
- Film making and model animation
- Games nights
- Discos and Live Music,
- Year 7 welcome beach bar-b-q
- Moorland Challenge
Youth Holiday Activities
The Youth Service ensures that during the holidays there are activities which suit all interests and skills with the chance to learn and develop new and existing ones.
Ranging from;
- Singing
- Dance workshops, Circus skills and performance
- Multi Sports Coaching
- Archaeological expeditions
- Survival skills & Den Making
- Sea Safety and Surflife Rescue
To ensure sessions are inclusive and accessible for all children and young people, the Youth Opportunity Fund and Extended Schools budget subside activities, some of which are free of charge. Off island boats for young people accessing activities at the weekends and holidays are also funded.
Information and Support
The Youth Service works closely in partnership with other organisations to ensure young people and their parents have access to support, information, advice and guidance to enable them to make the best decisions. Please contact the Early Years & Youth Office for more information.
