The Isles of Scilly has its own library service. The Council have an agreement with Cornwall County Council to circulate new books every three months, so that the Library stays 'fresh'.
It is a community facility, membership is free and you can join at any age. The library offers all these services and facilities:
- Books - there is a good range of fiction / non-fiction and children's books.
- Videos, CD-ROMS, cassettes for hire
- Talking books for hire, and also headphone story sets for children to listen in the Library.
- Internet/email access - you are strongly advised to book use of this facility in advance
- A Library Book Reservation service if the item you want isn't available (inter-library loans - £1.40 per item)
- Photocopy/fax facilities
- A School Library Service providing resources for local schools.
- Books for the visually impaired and also to cater for other people with special needs
- Local Reference library
You may use the online catalogue of the Cornwall County Council library service, and reserve a book through the Isles of Scilly Library.
For those members of the community that find it difficult to access printed books - whether because of visual or physical impairments, dyslexia or learning difficulties, the Listening Books organisation provides a postal and internet based audio book service offering MP3, CD's, internet streaming and audio tapes.
