The Council of the Isles of Scilly employs a Youth Support Worker Fran Brint whose role it is to help students and parents with the transition to post 16 education. Fran can be contacted on 07709 176600.
The recently updated Moving On Opens in a new window booklet provides lots of useful information to support both students and their parents with the transition process.
The Islands also have access to Careers Advice and a Personal Adviser for pupils through the Connexions Service. Connexions is a service for all young people aged 13 - 19 years providing information, advice, guidance and practical help in preparing for adult and working life.
Tim Moody is the Personal Advisor to the Isles of Scilly and he starts working with pupils of the Five Islands School from Year 9 onwards. Through group sessions and one to one interviews Tim will assist with career aims and college choices. Throughout the transition phase from school to college Tim will be on hand to provide support. Tim visits the Islands approximately every two weeks and can be contacted Mon - Fri on 07900 607797.
Access Funding for Mainland Schools and Colleges for Post 16 Education
Parents/Guardians of pupils in year 11 are entitled to a grant of up to £120.00 per child to reimburse travel costs in accessing visits to prospective mainland schools and colleges. Letters and forms will be sent to all parents at the beginning of the school year.
