Porthcressa Regeneration

The Isles of Scilly Local Plan - A 2020 Vision refers to the recommendations of The Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Urban Survey report, which identifies an area on Porthcressa Bank (extending from the Town Hall to the quarry at the foot of Buzza Hill) as offering a significant opportunity for a new regeneration development. In total, this area measures approximately 15,000 square metres (1.5 hectares/3.7acres).
In order to ensure that any redevelopment is co-ordinated in a comprehensive manner that secures significant benefits to the community, environment and economy, reflecting the areas important position adjecent to the sea, consultants Roger, Tym & Partners were appointed in March 2008 to produce a Master Plan to guide the redevelopment process.
Significant opportunities for regeneration include:
- Improved Community and Visitor facililities
- Better Public Spaces
- Environmental and landscape improvements
- Employment sites and premises.
Community involvment will be a key component to the success of this exciting project. As part of the creation of a Master Plan two public consultation days will be held so that residents can share their ideas and vision. To begin this process you are invited to attend an open day and/or workshop on Tuesday the 1st of July in the Town Hall. The workshops will commence at 10.00am and 6.00pm and last two hours. If you are unable to make these times drop in between 12 and 6 pm for an informal chat, all you need are your ideas, but any pictures of the area reflecting the areas history/traditions as well as personal memories of the area would be warmly welcomed.
