Conservation

In 1975 all the islands were designated as a Conservation Area, the only local authority area covered entirely by a single designation. This recognises the integration of the buildings and landscape in Scilly and how man has shaped the land over a long period. The Council has a duty to preserve and enhance the character of the Conservation Area and to protect features of special architectural or historic interest.

Information on aspects of conservation, such as conservation advice, conservation areas, listed buildings, planning policies for environmental issues (Agenda 21), and rural development are given in this section of the website.

Responsiblity for conservation is with the Planning Department of the Council of the Isles of Scilly. For further help and information on aspects of conservation, please contact the department using the Email a question facility on this page, or the general Contact the Council form, or by phone or email.
