Scilly Historic Environment Research Framework (SHERF)

SHERF is a project being undertaken by those with an interest in research into the historic environment of the Isles of Scilly. These include academics, local authority archaeologists and others. The project is part-funded by English Heritage with contributions from the Council of the Isles of Scilly and the Duchy of Cornwall.

The aim of this project is to define a research framework for the historic environment of the Isles of Scilly. This will be achieved by assessing our current understanding of Scilly's past, by identifying gaps in our knowledge and by promoting priorites for future research. The project will seek to involve the local and wider research community in this process so that there is a sense of community ownership of the research framework. The production of the research framework will be achieved in three stages as set out in 'Frameworks for our Past' (English Heritage 1996): Resource Assessment, Research Agenda and Research Strategy.

Below are the revised Resource Assessment chapters which incorporate comments received on the earlier drafts. The chapters and maps will be updated with the new results from the Lyonesse Project in March; any outstanding comments will be assimilated then.

It is anticipated that the draft Research Agenda will be posted on this webpage later in February.
