Biodiversity and Geological Conservation
The Council of the Isles of Scilly has collaborated with the Cornwall Wildlife Trust, the Isles of Scilly Wildlife Trust and Natural England to prepare the draft consultation document Biodiversity and Geological Conservation - Planning Good Practice Guidance for the Isles of Scilly. The document is designed to assist those who are submitting and determining planning applications in Scilly to understand how to ensure that biodiversity and, where relevant, geodiversity are protected, conserved and enhanced as a consequence of development. The document supplements the policies and proposals contained in the Local Plan.
This Good Practice Guidance is identified within the Local Development Scheme and once adopted will have the status of a Supplementary Planning Document. Consequently, the Good Practice Guidance will form part of the Isles of Scilly Local Development Framework. Whilst there are national publications and guidance documents on biodiversity and geodiversity, it is considered that there is a requirement for a document relevant to the wildlife and wild places of Scilly and to the scale of development that is occurring on the islands. This draft document aims to address this requirement.
In accordance with Government guidance set out in Planning Policy Statement 12: Local Development Frameworks, the draft Good Practice Guidance has been subject to a sustainability appraisal.
The draft Good Practice Guidance and sustainability appraisal can be downloaded at the bottom of this page or is available for public inspection at the Planning and Development Department in the Old Wesleyan Chapel, St Mary's, St Mary's Library and the Community Halls and Reading Rooms on each of the inhabited off-islands.
Comments should be made on the form provided below and emailed to planning@scilly.gov.uk or sent to the Planning and Development Department, Old Wesleyan Chapel, Garrison Lane, St Mary's TR21 0JD to be received no later than 4.30 pm on Friday 21st November 2008. All comments that are returned on time and relevant to the draft Good Practice Guidance will be considered by the Council before being adopted as a Supplementary Planning Document.
