POLICY 8 - WASTE DISPOSAL
The processing and recycling of waste at the Council's existing waste management site at Porthmellon will continue.
Favourable consideration will be given to proposals that improve its capacity and efficiency.
Proposals for the development of landfill sites for the disposal of waste will not be permitted other than when justified on a small scale for on site disposal of material arising from a specific development.
52. This is a significant issue for the islands and the community needs to continue to be able to dispose of waste, including scrap cars, while also reducing the amount produced. Landfill would compromise the integrity of the landscape and risk water pollution. The only possible exception to this policy will be for the legal disposal on site of small quantities of material arising from a development where this is the most practical and environmentally sound solution.
