Household waste - collection

The Council operates a weekly domestic refuse collection service on St Mary's.

Bryher, St Agnes, and St Martin's each have a waste site where domestic waste will be transported for disposal to St Mary's.

Waste on St Mary's can be presented for collection in sturdy black plastic sacks or dustbins. The Council does not have the facility to empty wheelie bins and therefore this type of receptacle should not be used. It is the Council's recommendation that waste be contained in a dustbin with the lid firmly in place to deter animal/seagull attack.

If you do not have the space for a dustbin, please do not put out waste sacks until the day of collection to prevent the contents being strewn around as birds and other animals rip open the bags searching for food. If bags are ripped apart it is the responsibility of the householder to clear up any mess and not the duty of the waste operatives.

It is the responsibility of each householder to ensure that their waste is suitably contained so as not to cause a nuisance to other residents.

Garden waste

Waste Operatives will not remove any bin or bag containing garden waste on domestic refuse collection day.

The Council offers facilities for disposing of garden waste, if you cannot compost it

Report a missed collection

Please fill in the Missed Refuse Collection Report form if your refuse has not been collected on the normal day of collection.

If the Council receives the form by 5pm, the missed refuse will be collected the next day, if this falls on a weekday.
