Corporate Governance is the framework by which the Council is accountable to its users, stakeholders and the wider community. Within this framework the council takes decisions, leads and controls its functions to achieve its objectives.
This year, the Council of the Isles of Scilly has improved its principles and processes by the development and implementation of an improved Risk Management Framework, the development of Local Area Agreements, and has actively engaged in consultation with the community and stakeholders to review and update the visions and strategies.
Using best practice principles, the Council of the Isles of Scilly has this year developed its local code of governance using the six core principles as recommended by the 'Delivering Good Governance in Local Government - Framework' produced by CIPFA/SOLACE. The Local Code of Governance defines the principles that should underpin our governance processes and enable the authority to approach governance in a structured, open and explicit way, to identify areas for improvement or further action necessary in changing circumstances. It is intended that the Local Code of Governance is reviewed annually in support of the publication of the Annual Governance Statement.
