Rent Assessment Committees
What is a Rent Assessment Committee?
A Rent Assessment Committee is made up from people on the Rent Assessment Panel in your region. There are usually three people on a Committee: one lawyer, one valuer and one lay person. They meet to decide on valuation issues, for example
- deciding on the market rent for Assured and Assured Shorthold tenancies
- deciding a fair rent for Protected Tenancies, where someone has appealed the decision made by the Rent Officer
The committee is independent of both central and local government. There is no appeal against their decision.
