Drinking in public places

There are a number of public places in and around Hugh Town where the Council has given the police extra powers to control the consumption of alcohol. The Council decided to designate these places because of past experience of noise, disturbance and litter, especially late at night. The powers are discretionary and it is for the police to decide to use them. It is in no sense a BAN on alcohol consumption.

A fuller description of the measures is here as well as a full colour map of the designated places. We encourage you to download and print these two pages and show them to any visitors or temporary staff coming to St Mary's. If you let holiday accommodation, please put these pages in your welcome packs.

If you, or anyone you know, is having problems with alcohol addiction, we encourage you to seek help today. See a doctor or phone a confidential counselling organisation such as CADA on Penzance 01736 365 467.
