The Council of the Isles of Scilly is required by directions made under section 251 of the Apprenticeships, Skills, Children and Learning Act 2009 to provide information about its planned and actual expenditure in connection with:
a) Its education functions;
b) Its children’s social services functions.
In relation to each financial year, the Council must provide a statement detailing planned expenditure on these functions – the “Budget Statement” – and also a statement detailing the actual expenditure on these functions – the “Outturn Statement”.
To facilitate benchmarking between Local Authorities and for bringing together national consolidated information, the format of the budget and outturn statements are prescribed in considerable detail by the Government.
These statements must be made accessible to the general public and any interested parties through publication on the Council’s website.
