Arts and entertainment

Miracle playersDespite being small, Scilly has a thriving and vibrant arts and entertainment scene. Local groups range from St.Mary's Choral Society through to punk, blues, garage and rock bands. The most notable are the ageing rockers the Steam Band who have been performing their brand of rock driven blues for over thirty years and Roadrunner - an eleven piece rhythm and blues band with a powerful brass section.

The Islands are visited every summer by several theatre groups performing out of doors. Featured on the right is Miracle Theatre performing Shakespeare in the Chaplaincy Garden St.Mary's. Other groups include Theate Set-Up and we have also had visits from the nationally acclaimed Kneehire Theatre.

Opera is not forgotten and City Opera perform in the Methodist Chapel each August as part of their national tour.

Most years during the August Bank Holiday weekend the Islands have their own music festival - Camel Rock - held on the bank at the top of Porthellick Beach on St.Mary's. Porthellick rock festivalThe official web site is here - Camel Rock
