Sports clubs and facilities available, including information on booking facilities.
There are many opportunities to enjoy sporting facilities in the Isles of Scilly.
Badminton - meets weekly in the Town Hall.
Clay Pigeon Shooting takes place throughout the year on the Islands of St.Mary's, Bryher and St.Agnes.
Cricket matches are played on Tresco, St.Agnes, St.Martin's and St.Mary's. Regular inter-island tournaments are held on Sundays during the season. Visitors are encouraged to take part.
Football. St.Mary's has two teams - the Garrison Gunners and the Woolpack Wanderers - and they battle it out in the smallest league in the world each Sunday through the winter on the Garrison Sports field. The Daily Mirror Cup held between both teams on a home and away basis, but extraordinarily on the same pitch, takes place each year, plus the annual match versus the old men on Boxing Day.
Gig Racing could be labelled the national sport of Scilly. Racing takes place each Wednesday evening (ladies) and Friday evening (men) throughout the summer months starting at the end of April. Each May Bank Holiday the Islands host the World Pilot gig Championships and attract crews from America, Holland, France, Ireland, Wales, the Faeroe's and England.
Judo - the Judo Club meets every week in the school gymnasium on St.Mary's.
Horse Riding - Is offeresed at St. Mary's Riding Centre situated at Pelistry on St. Mary's. Hacks and riding lessons are offered.
Squash and Tennis - squash is played in the court on the Porthmellon Industrial Estate on St.Mary's and tennis on the Garrison, St.Mary's. There are also tennis courts on Tresco, St.Agnes and St.Martin's.
Rifle and Pistol Shooting meets weekly at the Shooting Club on the Garrison. Archery is also available.
Sailing and Windsurfing. The Islands are a paradise for sailing and windsurfing and is enjoyed all year round. The Isles of Scilly Windsurf and Sailing Centre on Porthmellon Beach rents equipment and can organise lessons. Porthmellon also houses the islands Sailing Club.
Golf - there is a very sporting 9 hole golf course on St.Mary's that welcomes visitors. Although only 9 holes, the course has 18 tees and a par figure of 73 with a total length of just under 6000 yards.
Darts and Pool - obviously played indoors. Through the winter months there are leagues between the various pubs and bars on St.Mary's starting in November and finishing in early March.
Indoor Bowls - takes place one evening a week through the winter on an indoor mat in the Church Hall.
