My background and interests

I was born on the islands from a longstanding Scillonian family and educated on St Martin's and in Penzance.

I trained as a State Registered Nurse in London and continued working in London and Essex, specialising in Operating Theatre work. Whilst working in Essex I married my husband and then returned to St Martin's in 1983 where we took over my family business, which my husband and I now run.

When not involved in our business or Council work, I enjoy gardening, walking and making the most of these beautiful islands.

Why did I put myself forward as a Councillor?

Residents on St Martin's approached me and I thought this was an opportunity to give back to the community having had the privilege of being born and bred on these islands.

I have now been a Councillor for 12 years during which time I have been Chairman of Social Services, Policy and Resources, Vice Chairman of Council and, since May this year, have the honour of being Chairman of the Council. I find the work challenging and very interesting.
