Future Economy Workshop 18th May – Old Wesleyan Chapel – 10am - 2pm

AMION Consulting Ltd has been appointed by Cornwall Council, in partnership with the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) and funded by European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) Technical Assistance, to identify how the European Structural Investment Funds (ESIF) can be most effectively used to enable Cornwall and Isles of Scilly businesses through investment in research and development and more general innovation to take advantage of the growth markets in the following sectors:
•    Agri-tech
•    Marine-tech
•    Digital economy
•    E health
•    Aeropsace & Space

To inform this thinking, AMION are consulting businesses and other key stakeholders to explore the opportunities for growth and the barriers faced by businesses.

The purpose of the workshop is to:
•    explore market strengths, including science knowledge, assets and infrastructure and networks;
•    assess appetite of businesses for growth through research and development and innovation;
•    identify market opportunities and supply chains (from global to local);
•    examine barriers to research and development and innovation investment; and
•    discuss potential solutions – including ESIF investment funding options.

The focus of the workshop is clearly to identify business development opportunities and challenges that can be supported through ESIF by determining what research and development and innovation activity should be supported and how businesses can be effectively supported on either an individual basis or collectively within the timeframe and scope of the ESIF Programme (2014 – 2020).

Wider opportunities also exist to support relevant activity within the Future Economy theme, such as Horizon 2020, the EU’s research programme. The ESIF is not the only funding programme; the workshop will also be an opportunity to discuss where ESIF should best focus its effort.

I would be grateful if you could email Sophie Hughes  at Council of Isles of Scilly shughes@scilly.gov.uk to advise whether or not you will be able to attend the session. If you have any queries or want to discuss anything further, please do not hesitate to contact me on the telephone number below.
