Islands Youngsters Get Chance to Design New Library Card

With the official opening of the brand new library at Porthcressa due early in the new year, the Council is launching a competition to have a special design for the under 16s library card.

'Children from across the islands are being encouraged to be creative and come up with a winning design,They can take their inspiration from their favourite books, island views or anything else that takes their fancy really,' said librarian Kirsty Graham. 'The winner gets to have their own design featured on all cards for the under 16s plus a £20.Amazon gift card. There are also gift cards for 2nd and 3rd place efforts.'.

'We want the children to be part of this new community facility from day one' said Community Services chairman Richard McCarthy.'While other Local Authorities are having to shut down their libraries we will do our best to ensure that this latest community asset on Scilly is a boon for adults and children alike.'

The competition is open now and runs until Friday December 7th. Information packs are available from the library's temporay base at Carn Thomas, the school and the Town Hall.
