Active Scilly Offers Islanders Chance to Become Exercise to Music and Aqua-Fit Leaders

Released on 27 November 2012

Active Scilly is providing a special one-off opportunity next month for islanders to learn how to lead Exercise to Music and Aquafit classes.

The four day session which is being orgainsed in conjunction with the YMCA, key professonals when it comes to fitness courses, is being offered to islanders at less than half the price it would cost on the mainland: that's £350 for nearly 35 hours of training compared with about £800.

'We're hoping that people on Scilly will seize this chance of becoming exercise trainers with both hands,' said Sports and Leisure manager Tess Lloyd. 'All that's required is enthusiasm. You won't need any experience of training or even to have done similar activities in the past. The course begins with the basics and aims to work up to a pitch where you feel confident about taking classes.'

'Exercise to Music and Aqua Fit are becoming increasingly popular ways for people across all age ranges and abilities to keep themselves active and healthy. Having trainers on Scilly able to lead these sessions will be boost numbers and extend the benefits of exercise across the community as awhole including the off-islands.' added Tess.

Attendees who pass the course will come away with a nationally-recognised qualification. On the islands they will be able to conduct classes either as part of Active Scilly or on a self employed basis, given the relevant licenses and insurance.

The course itself runs from Tuesday 4th to Friday 7th December between 9:00 and 5:30pm. All those interested or looking for more information, including a course timetable, should contact the Queen Elizabeth II Community Sports Hall on 01720 424373.
