Yellow wind warning for Isles of Scilly

Please be advised, The Isles of Scilly has been issued with a YELLOW wind warning for Monday 8th February 2016.

Saturday 6 to Tuesday 9 February

Wind

Gale Force 8 south-southwesterly winds are expected through much of Saturday, strongest around the south and east Devon⁄Dorset coasts, potentially increasing to Severe Gale Force 9 for a time.

Winds veering westerly Gale Force 8 during Sunday, increasing Severe Gale Force 9 at times during Sunday afternoon and overnight into Monday morning.

Later on Monday there is the potential for west-southwesterly winds to increase to widespread Severe Gale Force 9, gusting to Storm Force 10 around Cornwall coasts.

Winds veering west-northwesterly Force 7 on Tuesday.

Waves

Large waves are expected throughout the period peaking on Monday afternoon / evening around West Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly when very large waves with very long period are possible. Best Forecast medium-range wind and wave on Saturday and Sunday suggests wave heights reaching 12 m off west Cornwall and around the Isles of Scilly. Note: The 05⁄0000 GMT run of Best Forecast medium-range wind and wave has 16 m waves around west Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

Best Estimate for Monday is for waves to reach 9 m off of the west and north coast of Cornwall and around the Isles of Scilly.

Swell of around 2 m and 15 seconds is expected on Saturday and Sunday, increasing to 5 m and 17 seconds on Monday (though there is the potential for very long period swell 20 to 24 seconds).
