St Mary’s by-election moved to Monday 22 May 2023

Unfortunately it is necessary to change the date of the St Mary’s by-election. Polling day will now be on Monday 22 May (not on Saturday 20 May as originally planned).

It has been brought to our attention there is no provision in law for polling day to be on a Saturday. Having taken advice from the Electoral Commission, we are moving polling day to the following Monday.

All other dates in the election timetable remain the same:

  • applications to register to vote must be received before 12 midnight on Wednesday 3 May.
  • applications for a postal vote must be received by 5pm on Thursday 4 May.
  • applications for a proxy vote must be received by 5pm on Friday 12 May (unless you are changing from a postal vote to a proxy vote in which case the application must be received by 5pm on Thursday 4 May).
  • applications for a Voter Authority Certificate (a free voter ID document for those who do not already have an acceptable form of photo ID) must be received by 5pm on Friday 12 May.

You may already have received a poll card showing the incorrect date of election as Saturday 20 May. Please disregard this. New poll cards showing the correct date of election as Monday 22 May will be issued as soon as possible.

The St Mary’s by-election webpage has been updated to reflect the new arrangements.

If you have any questions about this change, or about the by-election in general, please contact the Elections Office at elections@scilly.gov.uk or on 01720 424543.

We are sorry for any inconvenience that this causes.
