Calling all 16–24-year-olds with experience of living on the Isles of Scilly! We want to hear your views

As part of the development of our Corporate Parenting Strategy, we’ve commissioned nationally accredited independent consultants, Andy Gill and Katherine Peddie, to find out what young people have to say about their experiences of living on the Isles of Scilly.

If you are between 16-24 years old and have lived on any of the islands, Andy and Katherine invite you to join them for an informal and confidential online group discussion on Wednesday 21 May 2025, from 6pm-7pm.

Andy and Katherine are hoping to listen to the wishes and feelings of as many people in the 16-24 age group as possible, in order to understand the experience of living on Scilly at this stage of life. They will also take note of any ideas our young people have about how best to support children who might need to be cared for by the Council – or on what might help prevent this altogether.

The notes taken will be anonymised and used to help the Council develop its Corporate Parenting Strategy, which is due to be taken to Full Council and published later this year.  You can read more about Corporate Parenting on the government website.

The published Corporate Parenting Strategy will, in turn underpin and inform the forthcoming Children and Young People’s Plan. It will also help us develop our Sufficiency and Participation Strategies.

How to join the discussion

To join the MS Teams meeting on Wednesday 21 May at 6pm, you must email familyscilly@scilly.gov.uk before 2pm on the day of the meeting and request the joining details.

You can also use the email address above to ask any questions about the session, either before or afterwards.

Help us spread the word

We ask that everyone helps us spread the word about this consultation to any 16–24-year-olds who may have something to say about what it’s like to live here and how they would like to be supported.
