The Council has received a flood alert from the Environment Agency which reads as follows:

"Flooding is expected over the high tides from Friday evening, 5 December, to Sunday morning, 7 December.
High water at St Mary's is at:
16:44 on Friday
05:06 and 17:33 on Saturday
05:55 on Sunday
Force 7-8 southwesterly veering westerly winds and large waves are forecast to cause flooding to properties and low-lying land and roads up to an hour either side of high tides.
Locations particularly at risk include Hell Bay area, Bryher. Periglis area, St. Agnes. St. Mary's quay and harbour area, Porthloo, Sharks Pit, Porthmellon.
Spray and wave overtopping of quaysides and harbours, and beachfronts is likely in exposed coastal locations.
Be careful in coastal areas. Do not walk or drive through flood water or waves.
The high tide of most concern is Saturday morning, with flooding to property possible. Coastal conditions should ease for Sunday evenings high tide, however, further stormy weather is expected early next week.

The forecast high tide level at St Mary's is 3.20mAOD or 6.11mCD on Friday evening, and 3.25mAOD or 6.16mCD on Saturday morning. This is around 0.3m above tide table level due to storm surge.
Force 7 south westerly winds and offshore wave heights over 5m are forecast over the high tide on Friday evening. Force 8 westerly winds and offshore wave heights over 7m are forecast over the high tide on Saturday morning."

The Council has deployed tidal boards at Porthmellon, Co-Op, Thoroughfare, and Atlantic Slip in preparation for the storm surge.
We ask that the community keeps a close eye on the forecast and pays attention to updates issued by local organisations.
