We’re holding an event for anyone who would like to learn about offering fostering services, and other forms of respite support, to children, young people and families who rely on them.
If you’ve considered sharing your home with a child or young person who is temporarily in need of care and support, but don’t know enough about what is involved or how to make it happen, this is your chance to come and find out more.
The event is open to all residents across the islands and details are as follows:
Date: Tuesday 17 March
Time: 3pm – 5.30pm
Venue: The Lantern at Old Town Inn
There is no need to RSVP unless you think you will need transport by boat from one of the off-islands, in which case please email fosteringrecruitment@cornwall.gov.uk by noon 13 March 2026.
This event is part of Fostering South West’s national campaign to raise awareness of fostering services in the region, and we’ve commissioned our colleagues in foster care services at Cornwall Council to help us deliver these important messages to our community in person.
Come along to hear from our Cornwall Council and Fostering South West colleagues about their experience of delivering fostering and respite services elsewhere, and the difference this support from the community makes to the lives of children and young people, and their families. You will have the opportunity to simply listen and learn, or to ask your local Children’s Services team questions about the steps you would need to take in order to become a foster family or short break host on the islands.

If you think you could be part of bringing some of this luck into the life of a child who desperately needs it, please make sure you come along to the event for a chat over some tea and cake, or get in touch via the email above.”
