Background Information
The Council of the Isles of Scilly is inviting bids for an individual, or group, to deliver Garden Waste Recycling Services, on St Mary’s, Isles of Scilly for a period of 3 years commencing on 31 August 2026.
As the Council seeks to reduce the amount of waste sent for disposal, we would be interested to understand what other organic waste could be accepted by contractors as part of this bid.
The Council accepts household and commercial garden waste at its Porthmellon Waste Management Site (PWMS) under EWC 02 03 01. The Council’s facility is not permitted to process this waste on site and therefore an off-site recycling processing service is required.
Garden materials included under the service:
- Branches (up to 100mm)
- Flowers
- Grass cuttings
- Hedge cuttings
- Leaves and bark
- Plants
- Straw or sawdust, including bedding material from pets such as gerbils, hamsters, guinea pigs and rabbits.
