Candidates confirmed for local by-election and European Parliamentary election

The candidates for the local by-election on St Mary’s and for the European Parliamentary election on 23 May 2019 have now been confirmed.

Four people have been nominated for the St Mary’s by-election:

Registering to vote

To vote in these elections, you need to be on the electoral register. If you are not currently on the electoral register, you can submit an application online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote. Alternatively you can post an application form to the Electoral Registration Officer, Town Hall, St Mary’s, Isles of Scilly, TR21 0LW. Copies of the application form may be found here or at St Mary’s Library and Carn Gwaval. You can also request that a copy be sent to you in the post by calling the Electoral Services team on 01720 424545.

In order to take effect for the elections on 23 May 2019:

  • applications to register to vote must reach the Electoral Registration Officer by 7 May 2019.
  • applications for new postal votes, or for amendments to existing postal and proxy votes, must reach the Electoral Registration Officer by 5pm on 8 May 2019.
  • applications to vote by proxy must reach the Electoral Registration Officer by 5pm on 15 May 2019.

EU citizens

In addition to being registered to vote, EU citizens wishing to vote here in the European Parliamentary election need to complete a declaration form stating they will use their right to vote at the European Parliamentary election only in the UK and not in their home country.

A copy of the declaration form has been sent to all EU citizens currently on the electoral register. The declaration form may also be found here and you can request a copy in the post at any time by calling the Electoral Services team on 01720 424545. In order to take effect for the European Parliamentary election on 23 May 2019, completed declaration forms must reach the Electoral Registration Officer by 7 May 2019.

If you are an EU citizen who is not currently on the electoral register and you wish to vote in the European Parliamentary election, you would need to submit an application to register to vote and to submit a declaration form. Application packs for EU citizens, including both the application to register to vote and the declaration form, are available from St Mary’s Library and Carn Gwaval.
