Final reminder to register to vote for elections on 23 May 2019

Elections are taking place on 23 May 2019 to elect members to the European Parliament and to fill the current vacancy for St Mary’s on the Council of the Isles of Scilly.

Registering to vote

To vote in these elections, you need to be on the electoral register. If you are not currently on the electoral register, you can submit an application online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote. Alternatively you can post an application form to the Electoral Registration Officer, Town Hall, St Mary’s, Isles of Scilly, TR21 0LW. Copies of the application form may be found here or at St Mary’s Library and the Carn Gwaval Wellbeing Centre.

In order to take effect for the elections on 23 May 2019:

  • applications to register to vote must reach the Electoral Registration Officer by midnight at the end of 7 May 2019. Applications may be hand delivered to the Town Hall until 5pm on 7 May 2019 by posting them in the ‘internal post box’ in the reception area. After 5pm applications can be made until midnight:
  • applications for new postal votes, or for amendments to existing postal and proxy votes, must reach the Electoral Registration Officer by 5pm on 8 May 2019. Applications may be hand delivered to the Town Hall until the deadline by posting them in the ‘internal post box’ in the reception area.
  • applications to vote by proxy must reach the Electoral Registration Officer by 5pm on 15 May 2019. Applications may be hand delivered to the Town Hall until the deadline by posting them in the ‘internal post box’ in the reception area.

EU citizens

In addition to being registered to vote, EU citizens wishing to vote here in the European Parliamentary election need to complete a declaration form stating they will use their right to vote at the European Parliamentary election only in the UK and not in their home country.

A copy of the declaration form has been sent to all EU citizens currently on the electoral register. The declaration form may also be found here. In order to take effect for the European Parliamentary election on 23 May 2019, completed declaration forms must reach the Electoral Registration Officer by midnight at the end of 7 May 2019. Completed declaration forms may be hand delivered to the Town Hall until 5pm on 7 May 2019 by posting them in the ‘internal post box’ in the reception area. After 5pm applications can be made until midnight by scanning your completed declaration form and emailing it to elections@scilly.gov.uk.

If you are an EU citizen who is not currently on the electoral register and you wish to vote in the European Parliamentary election, you would need to submit an application to register to vote and to submit a declaration form. Application packs for EU citizens, including both the application to register to vote and the declaration form, are available from St Mary’s Library and the Carn Gwaval Wellbeing Centre.
