We can confirm that the Fire and Rescue Service was mobilised this morning to deal with a fire at the Porthmellon Industrial Estate on St Mary’s.
Nobody was hurt in the incident.
It was a significant fire, attended by all emergency services and with support from off-island firefighters.
The fire was brought under control within an hour of receiving the 999 call and is now extinguished. The crew have been able to make the industrial estate accessible except for the area immediately around the fire.
The cause of the fire is unknown, and Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service will be sending a Fire Investigation Officer to St Mary's later this morning to conduct an investigation as part of our mutual aid agreement.
