74 people from across the islands attended the islands’ Transport User Forum today in the Town Hall to hear and discuss ideas to improve the islands' transport.

The wide-ranging panel included representatives from the Council of the Isles of Scilly as well as other organisations with an interest in transport. From the Council of the Isles of Scilly, the panel included Chief Executive, Theo Leijser, Chairman of the Transport Committee, Chris Thomas, Strategic Investment Framework Manager, Diana Mompoloki and the Chairman of Council, Amanda Martin. Representatives from other organisations included Nigel Blackler (Cornwall Council), Chris Gregory (Duchy of Cornwall), Robert Dorrien-Smith (Tresco Estate), as well as Rob Goldsmith and Andrew May from the Isles of Scilly Steamship Company.

The session was an opportunity for residents to understand the intricacies of our transport system, to ask questions of the panel and to put their ideas forward.

Questions ranged from the complexities of PSO’s and subsidies to the IOSSCo’s plans for the future. Members of the community can expect more sessions in the future as improvements to the islands’ transport develop. The Council encourages islanders to pass on their written comments and suggestions in order to reflect fully the community's aspirations.

Amanda Martin, Chairman of Council said: “I am delighted that so many residents from across the islands attended this very constructive forum to debate our transport issues. The Council of the Isles of Scilly is committed to working with all its partners to finding viable, long-term solutions."
