Notice of the move from Park House to Islands View Residential Care Home

We’re delighted to confirm that we received confirmation of the registration of Islands View Residential Home on 3 July 2026 and are now in a position to move residents from Park House.

What this means for residents and families

The move will take place over 2 days, on Tuesday 21 July and Thursday 23 July 2026.

All residents and families affected have been informed and are being supported to make the move and to adjust to their new surroundings as easily as possible.

What we’re asking the wider community to keep in mind

The week of the move will be an extremely busy and potentially sensitive time for both residents and staff. We therefore ask anyone who has not been confirmed by the service as being directly involved in the move to allow our residents, their loved ones and our staff some space and time to settle into their new environment.

If you are a friend or family member of a resident, but have not already been contacted about the move, please feel free to email asc@scilly.gov.uk or call 01720 424470 with any questions about this news.

Our priority is to ensure that the move goes as calmly and as positively as possible for everyone directly affected by this transition. We appreciate your patience, understanding and support as we embark on this exciting new chapter.

You can find further information about the new care home and the services offered there on our Islands View webpage, which will be updated to include further information following the move.

What the move means for the islands

The opening of Islands View to residents represents a substantial investment in care provision on the islands, supporting people to remain close to their families, friends and support networks when they can no longer live independently.

The move will also mean the Park House building will be free to be redeveloped into some desperately-needed accommodation for the islands' key workers.

Cllr Avril Mumford, Lead Member for Adults, said: “I am absolutely thrilled that the move from Park House to Islands View is now upon us. We have all dreamed of a purpose built on-island residential care home for so long that it is hard to believe it will be welcoming its first residents in a matter of days.

I can’t wait to see our much-loved residents settled into their new home and see for the improvements such a modern facility will bring to the working lives of our valued staff. I realise the week of the move will be a busy one for everyone and I would like to extend the Council’s gratitude to all those working so hard to make the move as smooth as possible for residents and their families.

I would also like to take the opportunity to reiterate our thanks to the NHS for making the Isles of Scilly Health and Care Partnership possible and for helping us to arrive at this crucial milestone after so many months of collaboration. The integration of our islands’ health and care services now has a strong foundation for future development and I’m excited to see the benefits this will bring to the whole community.

I’m also delighted that this move will enable work to begin on the Park House building to turn it into much-needed accommodation for key workers. The contract has been awarded, following approval from Full Council in January, and the team is eager to make a start!”

What our registration as a Residential Care Home means

Islands View is a well-equipped Residential Care home which provides personal care and support for people who need assistance with daily living. It is not registered as a Nursing home and therefore cannot provide 24-hour on-site nursing care.

For many individuals, residential care provides the right level of support, enabling them to live safely and comfortably in a homely environment while remaining on the Isles of Scilly. However, admissions are always conditional on full assessment by our Adult Social Care team and must be in line with the terms of service of our Care Quality Commission (CQC) registration.

CQC permits Islands View to admit people with a dementia diagnosis following assessment, but only if their needs are primarily related to personal care, supervision and support. Islands View isn’t currently registered with a dementia specialism and is not permitted to provide nursing care. If an individual’s needs develop beyond those which Islands’ View can safely provide for, a further assessment would be required and, if necessary, an alternative placement identified on the mainland.

You can read the registration details in full on the Care Quality Commission’s website.

Through the Isles of Scilly Health and Care Partnership, we are committed to supporting people to receive the right care, in the right place, at the right time and as close to their home as possible.
