Prime Minister's address to the nation on coronavirus: 10 May 2020

In case you haven’t seen it yet, or need a reminder, here is the full Prime Minister’s speech from yesterday (10 May 2020)

The "stay at home, protect the NHS, save lives" slogan was replaced with "stay alert, control the virus, save lives."

A new Covid Alert System with five levels has also been created, which would influence how quickly the lockdown could be altered.  Level five is the most critical and the UK is currently said to be at level four. The Covid Alert Level is the rate of infection (the ‘R’ rating), plus the number of infections.

The Prime Minister also outlined a ‘conditional plan’ for easing social restrictions over the coming weeks, if the ‘R’ rate remains below 1.

The BBC have provided a handy infographic which reflects the change of direction which will be reflected in updates to guidance released in the coming days.
