Statement following the death of Jo Cox MP

The Council of the Isles of Scilly has joined with authorities across the UK in lowering the Union Flag as a mark of respect following the tragic murder of Jo Cox MP. Our thoughts are with her family and friends. The country has lost a highly talented and deeply principled individual.

Amanda Martin, Chairman of the Council of the Isles of Scilly, said: ‘The death of Jo Cox has appalled everyone. A wonderful mother, wife, politician and activist has been killed in the most violent and senseless way. Our country functions on the principle that we should respect each other’s opinions – Jo Cox was the embodiment of what is truly good in our country. A tragic waste of an amazing person’s life.’
