Update on the Integrated Health and Social Care project - 22 August 2025: can you help us find a name for the new care home?

[UPDATE 17/10/2025: The deadline for suggesting a name for the new care home has now passed. The naming ceremony planned for 22 October 2025 has been postponed. The new name will be announced as part of the opening ceremony for the whole facility in 2026]

We were delighted to attend the official opening of the new Isles of Scilly Hospital wing on 31 July 2025. It was wonderful to be able to celebrate this huge milestone in the Isles of Scilly Integrated Health and Social Care project with our NHS colleagues, and brilliant to see so many members of our community enjoying a guided tour around the site of the buildings that will, upon completion, form the new Isles of Scilly Health and Care Partnership.

Now that the Isles of Scilly Hospital wing has opened, focus has turned to the care home element of the Isles of Scilly Health and Care Partnership. Everyone is working hard to get the new care home ready for our Park House residents to move into (you can read more about our plans for this below) and one of the things yet to be decided is its new name.

During our engagement sessions, we heard some people say they would prefer to keep the name ‘Park House.’ However, as the existing care home is being turned into accommodation for health and social care staff, this name will need to be retained for the building to which it currently refers. We know how much the new care home will mean to its residents and the wider community, so we’re welcoming suggestions for what it should be called.

How to suggest a name for the new care home

You can suggest a name for the new care home by sending an email titled ‘Name suggestion’ to enquiries@scilly.gov.uk or by writing the name on a piece of paper and popping it in the suggestion boxes at either St Mary’s Library or the Carn Gwaval Health and Wellbeing Centre by 12 noon on Friday 5 September.

We promise to consider all responses received and will make a decision based on how well they align with the needs of the Isles of Scilly Health and Care Partnership.

We will announce the new name at the opening of the new care home.

Planning for the transition from Park House to the new care home

We will of course be keeping in regular and close contact with the families of all of those who currently receive care from the Council at Park House before, during and after the transition, but we also want to give the wider community an opportunity to see the improvements the new building will bring.

The opening ceremony for the new care home will take place on 22 October 2025. The ceremony will provide a chance for staff, family, residents and those who have contributed to the project to join together to celebrate how far we have come. Following the ceremony, from 3.30pm until 6pm, the whole community is invited to take the opportunity to have a look around the new building prior to residents moving into their new home – which we hope will be in November.

At this point the final details of the interior design of the care home will not have been completely finished, so some of the soft furnishings and decorations which will help make it feel more like home, will not be in place. There will also be more planting and landscaping to do before the outside areas look their best. We hope the green fingered members of our community will help us turn these areas into beautiful, calming spaces over time.

We very much hope that anyone who wasn’t able to attend the opening of the hospital wing will have an opportunity to have a look around that building in addition to the new care home on 22 October. However, access to the Isles of Scilly Hospital wing may need to be restricted in order to be respectful of patients at the hospital on the day.

It's our aim to invite the public to a further celebration of the completion of the integrated facility as a whole in the new year.

Thank you to everyone involved in making this project happen – we hope everyone is enjoying seeing it all come together as much as we are!
