Learning, Development and Skills Assistant

An opportunity has arisen for a Learning, Development and Skills Assistant to join the Learning, Leisure and Customer Services team within the People and Communities service. This is a varied and rewarding role supporting the delivery of learning, training and development opportunities across the Council and wider community.

This is a front-line role providing support to customers, learners, staff, partners and organisations, alongside offering essential administrative and operational support to the Learning, Development and Skills service. The post holder plays a key role in improving access to learning through Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG), effective communication and promotion of opportunities, and high-quality service delivery.

The role contributes to helping individuals progress into learning and employment, improve wellbeing and strengthen local communities.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) to staff, residents and partners on learning and training opportunities
  • Supporting the planning, coordination and delivery of courses and training programmes
  • Assisting with course administration including enrolments, attendance monitoring and learner communications
  • Supporting the promotion and marketing of learning opportunities through digital and local channels (e.g. social media, campaigns and printed materials)
  • Helping to increase engagement and participation by promoting opportunities to a range of audiences
  • Supporting learners and tutors with IT systems, equipment set up and basic troubleshooting
  • Maintaining accurate records, databases and reports, including learner data and course information
  • Supporting the evaluation and monitoring of learning activities, including learner feedback and impact
  • Undertaking general administrative duties including organising meetings, taking minutes and supporting service delivery
  • Processing purchase orders, invoices and supporting financial administration
  • Supporting inclusive learning by assisting learners with additional needs and access requirements
  • Building positive working relationships with colleagues, partners and the wider community
  • Providing cover for Customer Hub reception points as required

 

About You

This role will suit someone with strong administrative and organisational skills who enjoys working in a busy and varied environment. You will be confident using IT systems, able to communicate effectively with a wide range of people and comfortable managing competing priorities.

Additional Information

This role requires flexibility to meet service needs, including occasional evening or out-of-hours working. The post holder will also handle confidential information and engage directly with members of the public and service users.

Selection Process

Candidates will be shortlisted based on how well they demonstrate the essential criteria in their application, with further assessment undertaken through a practical exercise and interview.
